National Association of State Fire Marshals Announces Upcoming Annual Conference

The National Association of State Fire Marshals will be holding its annual conference July 22 through 25 in Annapolis, Maryland courtesy of the Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware State Fire Marshal's Offices.

Kicking off the conference will be a Keynote Address by Captain Rick Rubel with the U.S. Naval Academy. In his sea tours, he served in Guided Missile destroyers, in the in the Persian Gulf during Iran Crisis and Arab-Israeli War and returned during Desert Storm Gulf War. He had two commands including Program Manager of the DDG-51 Class Destroyer Program, the largest program in the Navy.

"We are extremely pleased and thankful that the NASFM leadership has chosen Annapolis to hold their 30th Anniversary Conference,” said Maryland State Fire Marshal Brian Geraci. “I want to personally thank the Delaware and Virginia State Fire Marshals for their outstanding support to help make this conference a great success."

In addition to the keynote address, other discussions will include information on smoke alarms: meeting the modern challenges; water-based fire protection systems; and the impact of home fire sprinkler systems on developers. The conference is an opportunity for attendees to gain new insights and best practices for fire prevention. State Fire Marshals will also have the chance to meet with vendors to learn first-hand of the latest technology and trends.

The membership of NASFM comprises the most senior fire officials in the United States. State Fire Marshals’ responsibilities vary from state to state, but Marshals tend to be responsible for fire safety code adoption and enforcement, fire and arson investigation, fire incident data reporting and analysis, public education, and advising Governors and State Legislatures on fire protection.
