First Official Lateral Joins OSFM

Last year, the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined a need to expedite the hiring of Deputy State Fire Marshal's. After a lengthy process, on February 27, 2019, the OSFM was please to announce our first official lateral hire. A lateral hire allows police officers throughout any Maryland police agency the ability to expedite the hiring process and allows the agency to have an employee who will only be required to participate in fire investigation courses rather than having to be sent to a 6-month long academy. It is planned this year to bring on three lateral officers. On Wednesday, we welcomed DSFM Shayne McKinney to the team, after serving over 20 years with the Easton Police Department, McKinney saw an opportunity to serve the citizens of Maryland in a different way. DSFM McKinney will be assigned to the Upper Eastern Shore Regional Office.
