Second M.I.R.T. Activation
The Office of the State Fire Marshal, Major Incident Response Team (M.I.R.T.) was activated in its second response in less than a week. The same team of Deputy Fire Marshals, including a bomb technician, Explosive K9, Accelerant K9 and a Fire Protection Engineer who responded to the incident last week in Ellicott City, Howard County, responded Friday, March 17, 2017 to the 11400 block of Ashley Drive, in Rockville, Montgomery County for a house explosion. The team assisted Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services along with Montgomery County Police Department and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATFe). The origin and cause of the explosion remain under investigation. The occupant was found inside deceased along with his pet dog.
